Frequently Asked Questions

What is an elective ultrasound?

The purpose of elective 3D and 4D prenatal sessions is to provide expectant families with pictures and videos while bonding with their unborn baby in a calm, family friendly environment.A routine ultrasound examination should have already been performed to assess the gestational age of the fetus and to evaluate for fetal anomalies as well as the basic components of fetal anatomy recommended for screening.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes, appointments are necessary for all of our services.

When should I book an appointment?

You should try to schedule your appointment at least 1 week in advance and always after the anomaly scan conducted/prescribed by your doctor/physician.

How can I book an appointment?

Please, send us an email at or call us at 7802632066

Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?

Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to cause any harm to mother or baby. Routine scanning of all pregnancies is now normal. In 3D/4D scanning exactly the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as with conventional 2D scanning. 3D and 4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 3D/4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.

What is the best time during my pregnancy to perform the 3D/4D ultrasound session?

If you plan on having only one 3D/4D session, we would recommend scheduling your appointment to take place between the 26th and 32th week of the pregnancy. However, cute images of your baby may be obtained after 22 weeks of pregnancy.

How long does the 3D/4D session take?

It depends which package you have selected. Routinally we schedule almost a full hour for all of our sessions and the ultrasound itself will last about 20 minutes. The second half hour will be used to choose the pictures of your baby you would like to print, saving the files, etc.

Will I always get beautiful images of my baby?

Usually, but not always will the customer receive perfect pictures and/or videos. Sometimes if the baby is persistently looking down or toward your spine it may be difficult to see the baby’s face. Other factors such as the baby facing the placenta, lack of amniotic fluid in front of the baby’s face, etc. may affect the quality of the images. Initially, sonographer will try repositioning the mother, asking her to turn on her left or right side and/or to go for a walk. This is done in order to obtain a better position in acquiring better images. If we are unable to obtain any images during the session, we may repeat the session free of charge, a weekday as deemed appropriate by the sonographer/ sonologist. This allows time for the baby to turn to a favorable position. Please, note that since we will take the time to watch your baby’s activities, the charges will be done the first time you visit us. Repetition is only available for Royal Baby Vision Packages. We make no promises that the images will be similar to those you might have seen, or that we can always meet everyone’s expectations. Every baby scans differently depending on its gestational age, body position, amount of fluid, and mother’s condition. Royal Bbay Vision to make every effort to obtain the best possible images and videos.

What can I do to ensure the best pictures of my baby?

We recommend that all pregnant mothers continuously hydrate by drinking plenty of water at least for 2-3 days straight prior to coming in for your session. This will help to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear as well as full. We have found that hydration improves the clarity of your 3D ultrasound photos significantly. All mothers should try to pay attention to what wakes your baby, and do that on the day of your 3D/4D ultrasound. For some mothers this means eating a meal, a few chocolate pieces, or having some fruit juice! Do whatever works for you and your baby so we can see their cute little faces awake and in the mood to play! We encourage you to enjoy the fun and some of the funny positions your baby prefers rather than holding out for that perfect picture. We have observed at times even when parents are seeing beautiful pictures of their baby’s face, they are still hoping for more, like seeing the baby awake with eyes open and moving. Even though he/she is sleeping, the baby may still yawn, stretch, suck its thumb or toe, and even stick out its tongue. Please remember to remove any belly rings prior to any ultrasound done. 3D/4D ultrasound probes are specially designed with crystals and should never come into contact with metal. Finally, if possible, wear comfortable clothing that allows you to fully enjoy this experience.

How much will it cost?

See our packages. Please, note our Packages are NOT NEGOTIABLE and you will need to pay in full the requested session.

Is 2D&3D/4D ultrasound possible in all kinds of pregnancies?

What is the difference between 2D& 3D/4D ultrasound?

2D ultrasound is the traditional method used for years. They provide flatter, two-dimensional, black and white images of your baby. 3D ultrasound is an advanced method which captures a still  three-dimensional image of your baby, while 4D ultrasound adds the dimension of motion so it looks like a video.4D is real time  three-dimensional image of your baby in utero. Actions such as yawning, turning and even subtle movements can be seen.

Is 3D and 4D ultrasound safe for me and my baby?

Ultrasound is routinely used in all pregnancies in the United States. 3D 4D sonograms have the exact same type of intensity as ultrasonic waves that are used with all traditional 2D ultrasounds. Ultrasounds have been used for over 35 years and there have been no proven side effects from its proper use. We strictly adhere to the FDA’s standard..

3D/4D Ultrasound both utilize sound waves to look inside the body. The technology is similar to radar. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of exposure.

Many women often have multiple ultrasounds during their pregnancy with no negative effect on the baby or themselves.an elective 2D, 3D and 4D prenatal ultrasound with the special intent of offering expectant parents the opportunity to view their baby and promote family bonding. Seeing the fantastic images of your baby and being able to actually watch their movements, while still in the womb, helps establish a stronger bond between parents, family and friends with the unborn baby.

Can a 2D& 3D/4D ultrasound be used to substitute an ultrasound from my doctor?

The answer is “NO”. A client requesting an elective prenatal ultrasound with us must be under the care of a doctor. Beacuse only your doctor can provide a medical, diagnostic ultrasound to confirm the due date, screen for fetal abnormalities and look for any other pregnancy related concerns.

When is the best time to have a 3d/4d ultrasound?

That depends on individuals &what you are looking to see.The best time schedule your visit is between 26 – 30 weeks. Most of our clients come twice (discounts apply), with your first visit between 21 – 24 weeks and your second between 27 – 32 weeks.

Between 28 and 32  your baby develops more and gets a more defined face. After 34 weeks, it becomes more and more difficult to obtain good pictures as the baby grows more and increase in size.. However all babies are different and we have been successful in obtaining great images all the way up to 39 weeks.

Do you require an appointment for 2D&3D/4D?

Yes, we recommend that you contact us about two weeks ahead of time to schedule your appointment.

What should I do prior to the 3D/4D appointment?

Drink plenty of water even several days before your appointment to ensure your amniotic fluid is clear. You should have only a light meal the night before your appointment. About a half hour before your 3D/4D ultrasound scan, try to drink a fruit juice so that your baby will be awake during your session. Do not drink coffee.. Bring a picture of the ultrasound from your doctor. We need it to confirm you are under prenatal care. We will make a photocopy it and then give it back to you.

How can I be sure to get the best possible 3D/4D pictures?

How long is the 3D/4D ultrasound session?

Depending on the the ultrasound package selection,  your session will last between 10 and 35 minutes. It is best to arrive a few minutes early to fill out our paperwork.

Will my doctor be contacted about the 3d/4d ultrasound?

We do not contact your doctor prior to the scan since this is an elective procedure. We do require however that you are under prenatal care and if you have any concerns, you should ask your doctor. Ultrasound technicians/sonographer in general cannot make a diagnosis.

Will I always get great images of my baby?

Most of the time we are able to get great images, but not always. Sometimes We are unable to get images if the baby is looking face down toward mom’s spine , or if the baby face /body is against the placenta. Every baby scan is different depending on its gestational age, position, amount of fluid, and mother’s condition. We promise to make every effort to obtain the best possible images of whatever parts of the baby that can be seen.

What will determine quality of the images?

Quality of the image depends upon the fetal position. Some babies are ready for viewing and great images are obtained. Others turn their back , putting their hands & feet in front of their face.Sometime the placenta is anterior hiding the baby face. No worries we will try hard to make your baby move in order to see and image the face.

What can I do to improve the images of my ultrasound?

how to improve your images “WATER” is the best answer . You should be drinking plenty of water beginning at least 7 days before your scheduled appointment. Water can improve the quality of an ultrasound. Drinking juice or eating a little candy may help the baby move a little on that day of imaging.

What if we are not able to get 2D&3D/4D images?

We always try our best to obtain the absolute best images of your baby & make sure you are satisfied. We use the top ultrasound equipment to ensure this, however, some factors that effects the image quality for example location of your placenta, the amount of amniotic fluid surrounding your baby, the clarity of the amniotic fluid, the baby’s position, & the overall fetal environment. If we are unable to obtain 3D/4D images at your scheduled appointment due to these factors mentioned above, you will be asked to reschedule & come back for a second appointment within the next 14 days at no charge.

What if my baby is breech?

Good pictures can be obtained with breech babies, but they not guaranteed & are much more likely if the baby is head down.If you do know that your baby is breech(head up &feet down) prior to your 3D/4D ultrasound, then reschedule your appointment a few weeks later to allow more time for the baby to turn. However some babies remain breech until very late in the pregnancy or never turn, if this is the case you can still do a 3D/4D ultrasound and we should be able to get good images if you have plenty of amniotic fluid.

Do elective prenatal ultrasound scans take the place of an ultrasound at a doctor’s office?

No, ultrasound scans taken at RBV does not take the place of an ultrasound at your doctor’s office.

Will the images of my baby always come out clear and beautiful?

Our sonographers will always try their best to get the clearest and most beautiful images. However, because of  so many factors which are out of control, we cannot guarantee all images will come out perfect.  The baby’s position, the amount of amniotic fluid, and the mother’s body type all have an effect on how the images come out.  Our experienced sonographers will try different methods with the mother to try to get the best possible images.
